Willaston

History of Willaston
Although Willaston is not itself mentioned in the doomsday book Hadlow Road is thought to have its name derived from the Saxon settlement Edalue which was though to be nearby. Willaston village developed as a number of farmhouses grouped around a large village green rectangular in shape.

Mill Lane has been the site of a windmill at Willaston since at least 1321 the surviving Willaston windmill is one of Wirrals tallest and was built in 1800.

Willaston's first church was consecrated on 21st June 1855. The church hall was built in 1927 funded by Mrs Johnson of Raby House.

Hadlow Road Station at Willaston opened in 1866 and remained open till 1956.

Willaston had two pubs the oldest the Red Lion ceased being a public house in 1928 the half timbered building stillstands and is thought to have been built prior to 1631 (an 'extension' bears this date).
